The last major music and DVD retailer on the high street called in the administrators last night after poor sales failed to back a dying business model.
The 92 year old firm appointed Deloitte as administrators. Deloitte have decided to keep HMV's 239 UK and Republic of Irelands store's open in the hope that a new buyer is found.
HMV have said that it will not be accepting gift vouchers.
It seems that there is no room in customers pockets for the dog and its gramophone when their phone can do the same job without the hassle of trudging to the shops.
I have HMV gift vouchers, can I get my money back?
Generally speaking NO, however:
If you paid by credit card and the voucher was £100 or more you need to contact your card provider and make a claim under Section 75.
However Section 75 mainly applies to goods and services. The Office of Fair Trading has said that you 'may' get your money back, but this is a largely untested area of law.
What is Section 75?
