Internet "Trolls" Cause Misery
19 April 2012
Internet Trolls are becoming more and more prevalent causing misery to people who have lost loved ones. These callous people set up Facebook pages, send messages and generally cause upset and distress to families. One example is of a fake Facebook page being set up following the death of a 16 year old boy, stating that he was not dead but ran away. The lad died in hospital following a motorbike accident. The family were bombarded with insults and taunts when they tried to challenge the trolls.
Facebook have taken down the page and have launched a joint investigation with the Police. A spokesman for Facebook has said “We are absolutely clear that there is no place for trolling on Facebook. It is against our rules to intimidate or harass others and everyone has the tools to report such content via specific links across every page of our site. When abuse is reported to us we react swiftly and we will disable accounts”.
Another example is where “trolls” intimidated a young lad following an altercation at school, so much so that the lad took his own life.
