Elderly NHS Patients Discharged at Night
12 April 2012
It has been revealed that thousands of patients are being sent home to relieve the pressure on beds in the middle of the night. Some of them being elderly patients who have to go home to empty houses with little or no planning for their return home. Some patients have complained that they have not even been given time to contact a relative to advise them of their discharge
The Medical Director of the NHS is reported to have stated that he will open an investigation into why this happens and how the numbers could be brought down and has warned hospitals to avoid late night discharges.
