Water Companies Wasting Water
03 April 2012
At a time when we are all being told to save water and a hosepipe ban is being introduced from Thursday, some water companies are still “high pressure flushing” to clear mains pipes of sediment and rust. One particular water board sent surging water onto the road, taking a sample every few minutes to check for discolouration at 11.45pm and it is reported that more than 1,100 hydrants have been “flushed” since September. The Director of this particular water board is reported to have suggested that people should be taking short showers instead of baths in an attempt to conserve water. There are suggestions that this “flushing” will continue for at least a further three weeks
A statement from a particular water board has reported to have said “Flushing takes place during the night to ensure that there is less disruption to our customers. We are doing everything to save water during this time of drought. However, we do need to occasionally flush our mains from start to finish to maintain the water quality”.
