Water Rates Rise

In the light of the imminent hosepipe ban, customers are furious over the proposed rise by up to 8 per cent in water rate bills. This is to take into account a contribution towards the improvement programme taking place from 2010 to 2015 and has been agreed with Ofwat. It is reported that companies lose a vast amount of water and leakage is unlikely to fall unless criteria for fixing leaks is changed. A spokesman for Energy and Environmental Management is reported to have said “Ofwat only requires companies to fix leaks as long as the cost of doing so is less than the cost of not fixing the leak.
